Communications

The Communications Section of the Dearborn Heights Police Department is staffed by 9 highly-trained civilian dispatchers. Dispatcher responsibilities include dispatching police units to calls for service, dispatching Dearborn Heights Fire Department units to fire and rescue calls, and answering all emergency and non-emergency phone calls coming into the police department. Dispatchers also have responsibility for operating the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) which is a statewide computer system that provides information about a person's driver's license status, and criminal history, and shows outstanding arrest warrants. The LEIN also reveals if a person is a "missing person" or if a vehicle, license plate, or other piece of property is stolen.
