Road Patrol

The Road Patrol, consisting of 61 sworn officers, is the largest unit of any of the three divisions of the department. In fact, 60% of the department's sworn officers are assigned to the Road Patrol. The Road Patrol's primary responsibilities include conducting preliminary investigations into criminal complaints, conducting investigations of motor vehicle accidents, assisting citizens, preventing crime within the city, and enforcing traffic laws.

Officers assigned to the Road Patrol provide police protection 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Officers work 12-hour shifts and are split up into two shifts, Day Shift and Night Shift. Each shift has two teams or platoons (when one platoon is on duty the other is off duty). Each platoon is supervised by a lieutenant and two sergeants. Members of the Road Patrol can be seen patrolling the streets of Dearborn Heights in patrol cars, on motorcycles, and on mountain bikes.
