Water Tap Procedures & Rates

Water tap applications need to be submitted to the Water Billing Department at City Hall. When an application is submitted, it must include a $75 non-refundable deposit. This deposit will be deducted from the final cost of the water tap. Upon submitting an application, the Department of Public Works will review the application and perform a site visit before establishing a final cost.

Prices for water taps are based on the size of the water service. Effective January 28, 2014, the following water tap service fees are:

Additional charges may be incurred based on road cuts or other street services. Meter prices are subject to change at any time. Please contact the Water Billing Department at 313-791-3450 to verify the current prices.

Larger water services (4” through 6”) will be installed by a licensed contractor and inspected by the Water Department.

After the application has been reviewed by the Department of Public Works, the applicant will be notified. This process may take up to 30 days. Upon notification, the applicant will make their payment at the Water Billing Department at City Hall and pick up the meter.

The meter must be installed by a licensed plumber. After meter installation, the water services lines will be installed. Once this has been completed, an appointment must be scheduled with the Water Billing Department (313-791-3450) for a city repair technician to inspect the meter and turn the water on.
